Project AK-47 rescues children from lives of violence as child soldiers by thinking differently about the problem, going beyond extraction to empowerment. We don’t want to just rescue children from this terrible cultural crime, we want to prevent them from being conscripted in the first place. So we build relationships — often with the military and cartel members — nurturing the seed of good we believe is in every person to show them a child’s value is much greater as a contributing member of the community than as soldier. Project AK-47 provides opportunities for these children to become agents of change, equipping them with the education and safe environment they need to thrive.
